As of September 5th, 2020, we are ending support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 across all Chartel Group products and services ahead of our planned launch of Chartel Scope later this year. This means that all devices connecting to any Chartel Group service will be required to support TLS 1.2+, otherwise the connection will be dropped.
TLS or Transport Layer Security is a protocol that provides communication security over computer networks. For example, your browser is now securely connected to our server (www.chartelgroup.com) via TLS. Information is therefore transmitted to and fro securely over the internet.
The effect to you should be minimal if you keep your device, specifically your browsers, up to date. TLS 1.0 (defined in 1999) and TLS 1.1 (defined in 2006) are out-of-date protocols that do not support modern security policies and contain vulnerabilities that can be exploited by attackers. Google, Microsoft, Apple and Mozilla all announced that their browsers will no longer support TLS 1.0 and 1.1 as of March this year. The Internet Engineering Task Force is also planning to officially deprecate both protocols.
